On January 10, the national meeting on meteorology was convened to deploy tasks for 2024. Top on the agenda is the modernization of meteorological science and technology, and its social services to ensure a high-quality developmentin this field.
Dr. Chen Zhenlin, Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), delivered a keynote work report, calling for"a concerted effort to write a new chapter of Chinese-style modern meteorology".
In 2023, with the successful provision of meteorological services for disaster prevention and mitigation, agricultural production, and high-profile events, the Chinese meteorologists rendered a strong support to the economic and social development and security in this country.
The meeting pointed out that the meteorological satellite, radar, numerical prediction, artificial intelligence and big data will be forged ahead with as an underlying enabler. The meteorological warning based multi-stakeholder disaster risk reduction (DRR) mechanism will be further improved as a robust whistle-blower --the first line of defense for meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation.
Specific arrangements were made for 2024, including, meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation, integration into the modern economy, basic capabilities and capacities, meteorological education and human development, governance and partnership, administrative efficiency and effectiveness, and international cooperation.
